Silly, gorgeous, and simple puzzles, but leaves you wanting more
Lost in Play looks like you stepped straight into a cartoon. The art style is gorgeous, full of personality, and every scene feels hand crafted with care. It’s clearly built with a younger audience in mind, but don’t let that fool you into skipping it. It got genuine laughs out of me more than once, and the puzzles had some real bite to them too, especially since so much of the solving comes down to how closely you’re paying attention. The game rewards players who actually look around instead of rushing through, and there were a few moments where I had to stop and really study a scene before the answer clicked. It’s worth mentioning that there are hints that are genuine nudges in the right direction rather than handing you the answer which I definitely decided were worth my time on a couple of occasions.
I often focus on a game’s soundtrack in my reviews as it is important to me. For Lost in Play, the music has a standout moment or two, but for the most part it fades into the background and doesn’t leave much of an impression once you’re done playing. That said, it’s a minor knock in an otherwise tightly put together package. Between the charming characters, the storytelling, the clever puzzles, and the visuals carrying so much weight, Lost in Play stands on solid ground. It’s short, sure, but that works in its favor. This is a game you can knock out in a handful of hours and walk away satisfied, and honestly, that makes it an easy recommendation for anyone looking for something fun and low commitment.
